2013...The HOPE of broken dreams

Image
As 2013 winds up, and I looked at my goals and confessions I wrote at the beginning of the year, I realize I have a lot to be grateful for, its not like some bad stuff didn’t happen in d year but when I look at them now, I’m still thankful. Some years ago I used to write goals for the year and by the middle/end of the year, my plans would have gone the trajectory opposite of what I wrote, leaving me sad. Then  I had a couple of intimidating friends that would call me on the 1 st of January of the new year to ask me what my plans for the year were and what God is saying? Etc, etc. I barely had anything to say, hmmn…then they’ll go ahead to tell me some long and very grand things they had for the year, so I would keep quiet and listen to them and say to myself  “ Chaii, God when would you change my story or even tell me this kind of big things so I can tell this my friends?” lol, so I stopped writing or planning anything... before i fall into the temptation of saying much, he

**THE JOURNEY... Omega

She threw it at his car and shattered the wind screen, he rushed for her and they continued fighting and insulting on the road, some by-standers rushed to separate them and a neighbor took her to their house to talk to her and Dj returned home with the neighbor’s husband. The kind neighbor gave her tea and a towel to clean up her face. She rested a while there, picked up her luggage, got a taxi and headed for the airport got a ticket for Abuja, with thoughts running wild and tears rolling down her cheek in her window seat,  in her heart she said “I’m  done with this mad man for good”...

THE JOURNEY... Sequel

Her mother was bewildered and kept mute but kept on praying. Dj called and text-ed her but she wouldn’t respond. Two days later Mr Briggs’ (Dj’ father) and Dj’ friend called her and talked with her. Later she called Dj and talked to him and she decided to go ahead with the wedding… Alas her big day was here with guests gaily dressed and seated in the church the groom arrived looking dapper in his navy blue tux with his groom’s men. Then the congregation was upstanding for the entry of the sweet looking bride, in time the church proceedings were done and they were pronounced man and wife. Excited, Adediji, planted a soft kiss on her lip as they left for a surprise honeymoon destination. A week later they returned home to thank family and friends for their support. Hannatu picked her suit cases from home to start her new life as Mrs Hannatu Briggs.  The goodbye was emotional she said, “I saw daddy with glassy eyes, that’s when it hit me, I was leaving behind the place I

** THE JOURNEY...

Hannatu was a final year student of Arch itecture and was already feeling the pressure of settling down. Her education didn’t pick up early, so by some unwritten standards she was due. She had her fair share of dating haggles – and a little extra on it – from dating her school mate who was a serial cheat, to Mr. know-all-family friend and to the highly recommended “friend” of a friend. Finally she decided to keep her final year date free.  In the course of the semester while working on her project she had a very difficult supervisor and the stress was weighing her down. This fateful morning she was having her quiet time and she prayed seriously about her supervisor and she was happy and felt she should go see him with her project work as she got dressed she heard a whisper say, “Today seems like a good day to meet your husband.” She shrugged it off as she picked her books, laptop and bag and off to his office, she met her supervisor in a good mood and he attended to her

FOR THE RECORD

Hello there, it’s been quiet around here, thought I should answer a few questions people ask me about my works. A lot of time I get calls and messages asking me about the stories I featured on this blog if they are true life stories? how do I get them? e.t.c… well, the answer is YES, the stories on my blog are based on true life events in my life and those friends whom I seek their permission to write and share this story with you my readers.  I believe these stories would inspire you as they also inspire me in my trying moments…and also give some hope if you are passing through the same situation. The Identity of these people are kept hidden and the names used in my writings are fictitious and a coincidence if they bear semblance with any other person out there. Once again I must thank all my friends who share their experiences for nothing but the hope that someone would be inspired in the end, and those of you who stop by to read and comment. God bless. Shou

A letter to my friend

Image
Dear friend,                     As I walked my path home in silence, emotion overwhelmed me as I thought of the quality of our friendship over the years. I can’t remember how it started, neither did we plan it, but I’m glad I met you. Memories of how we sat on bunks, table tops etc and talked about our struggles, dreams and passions, how we wanted to be different and the list goes on. I remember when we disagreed so bad and we just couldn’t settle and we walked away thinking we were both done for good, it’s funny how I walked to your room the next day to hurry you up for the day’s activities…sure that ended the fight.*smile* Your commitment to ensuring I got it right, and didn’t succumb to worry and discouragement thought me what devotion means. Even though I felt like the little one when you chided me, you were never too busy for my many questions, neither too arrogant to admit your wrong, nor too old to ask my opinion. You always appreciated my listening

Truth and SHAME...

Hello friends, a colleague in the faith shared this story with me and it got me thinking because I’ve heard similar stories severally and I’m wondering the balance between God’s standard and church doctrine. Before i say much let me relay the true life story of Ben and Nina. I have known Ben for a while and he has invited me couple of times for a speaking gig in his church’s youth fellowship.  Raised by Godly parents, Ben from a young age developed a personal relationship with God, and has waxed strong in the faith.  as the first son of his parents his education was quite fast and in no time he had forged a good career path for himself, making  him a role model to his siblings and the youth in his local church, and he was appointed secretary in the church’ singles fellowship. As with most African traditions, when a young man is of age and can stand on his own, they say it’s a good time to get married. Well he has had his fair share of dating ups and downs in dating until

FRANCESSCA...The MISSING LETTER 2

Image
Asabe she said, “The journey home was the longest journey in my life, as I stared through the window at the moving trees and savanna, the tears kept rolling down. As much I tried to control my emotion, my heart was sore broken, the woman beside me noticed and asked me what was wrong?, she tried to console me and said I should see it as God’ will and other passengers on the coach tried too, at least their words kept me calm though I was filled with despair”. But the thought of Mums yelling and disappointment made me more scared, and that my mates had left me behind got the better part of me, I couldn’t think why God dealt me this terrible blow. Laughing she said “the journey finally ended.”

FRANCESSCA ….The MISSING Letter**

Strolling through campus to catch up with old class mates, as they were processing their clearance for the mandatory service year, Francesca had a bout of mixed feelings since she was going to far away Jigawa state, but was happy to see other friends and schoolmate she would be meeting there. Camp wasn’t till a few days, leaving her a short time to prepare. In her words “as pilgrims to a foreign land I left home for Jigawa, with fear in my heart and hope in my eyes I waved my brother good bye at the terminal”.

ANYWHERE but here...

Have you ever made frantic efforts to find something or locate a place in the heat of the day? yeah, it could be annoying and for the emotional ones like me, we would cry... Today was another a bright Monday morning, and work started on a calm note not without much clearing out left for items to be delivered. In the course of the day’s work, one of our teams was running out of funds to continue with its work, and so they put forward a request and as the accountant I was issued a cheque to cash so major transactions could be cleared out before close of work.  I rushed off to the bank, positive I had my identity card on me. I filled the necessary documentation and waited for a confirmation of the cheque. While on the queue,

the WELL and the PRICE.

hello friends, while rummaging through my mind for what to share with you, i received this mail from a mentor ( Tyler Perry) whose works inspire me a lot and i thought i should share it with you. please enjoy A few years ago I was getting these really insane water bills. I mean HIGH! So I decided to dig some wells in my yard to have water for my landscape. I live alone, so I know it had to be from watering the grass. So I hired a company to come out and dig these wells. The foreman and I walked all around my yard and as we were walking he was putting down flags. I asked what the flags were for. He said, "The flags represent good places to dig for water." I asked, "Why do you have so many flags?" He said, "I'm not sure if any of these places will produce water." I said, "Hold up, you mean if you dig all these spots and don't hit water I still have to pay you?" He said, "Yes, that's how it goes." I said, &q
